  2. What is the difference between Dexron-II and Dexron-III?The ii and the iii are referring to the year it was made. Both of those the dexron 2 and 3 are pre 20.

  • Have 96 Lexus es300 with A/T which calls for Dexron II fluid so which fluid can I use instead. Would Dexron VI be compatible or should I use something else?

Dexron
  • You can use Dextron VI no problem… It is backwards compatible… I.E. It can work with any system that calls for Dextron, Dextron II or Dextron III.

Since they don’t make Dexron II anymore Dexron VI is the synthetic replacement. It should work fine in your transmission

GM released the Dexron-II (D) fluid specification in 1978 and Chrysler released the ATF+2 fluid specification (MS-7176D) in 1980. This fluid is compatible with the previous ATF+ fluid, but not compatible with Dexron fluids (although you could use Dexron-II(D) in place of ATF+2). 1989 to 1995 AF2 DEXRON II MaxLife ATF, MERCON®V, DEX / MERC 1996 and later SLF Honda ATF - Z1 MaxLife ATF (Except in CVT) 2003 to 2005 AF3, AF6 DEXRON III MaxLife ATF, MERCON V, DEX / MERC, DEXRON VI 2006 and later AF6 DEXRON VI DEXRON®-VI, MaxLife ATF 1995-1997 AE LT 71141 MaxLife ATF Multitronic CVT VTF Part number G-052-180-A2.

Car: 2007 Toyota Corolla.
The power steering fluid is a little low. I’m going to do more than just fill it up–I’m going to use a turkey baster and suck up what’s in the reservoir and then replace nearly the entire content of the reservoir with a fresh power steering fluid. I intend now to do this procedure every oil change as this will keep the fluid replenished to some extent. I also believe that this only replaces about 1/5 of the power steering fluid in the system. Well, 1/5 every oil change seems all right since the owner’s manual doesn’t actually call for a replacement interval anyway.
Here’s the question: Dexron II is impossible to find, III is rare. What else is acceptable?
Is Toyota Type-IV ATF fluid also acceptable? It’s what I use in the automatic transmission. Is Dexron VI good too?
I don’t want to mess up and use the wrong fluid.
